Remove Dirt and Impurities
Monsoon season means more humidity. As a result, your skin may produce excess oil, clogging pores and leading to acne breakouts. To achieve a balance between oil and leaving the skin without natural moisture, a mild cleanser is necessary. Using the cleanser will aid in eliminating dirt, sweat, and pollutants that combine with oil to bring on breakouts. Look out for sulfate-free products that contain ingredients like salicylic acid or tea tree oil, which fight the bacteria causing acne. You should also cleanse your face regularly so that your skincare products are able to penetrate. However, do not overwash, as it is likely to irritate the skin!
Don’t Exfoliate Too Much
Due to monsoon weather, your skin may get clogged with sweat, excess oil, and dirt in the environment. Therefore, once or twice a week, exfoliation can be beneficial for shedding off dead cells and avoiding the formation of blackheads or whiteheads. Select a gentle exfoliant, such as a scrub with minute particles or a chemical exfoliant such as AHA/BHA that will not harm the skin barrier. Frequent exfoliation of the skin increases blood flow, cleanses the skin, and enables skincare products to sink in. However, excessive exfoliating is also not recommended, as the skin is already sensitive to humid weather. We recommend exfoliating 1-2 times a week with a mild exfoliator.
Hydrate with a Whitening Serum
Humidity may mislead you to avoid serums and moisturizers, which is a very common and dangerous mistake. Remember, skin requires water to maintain equilibrium even during the monsoon season. Thus, the secret is to select the right kind of serum. Replace thick creams and serums with lightweight and water-based ones that are hydrating without making the skin feel or look greasy. We recommend using Skin Lab Whitening Serum as it contains hydrating ingredients that retain the moisture content and leave the skin fresh and bright. All you have to do is apply the whitening serum on damp skin and massage it into the skin.
Take Care of the Lips and Body
Skincare is not all about the face. Excess moisture can lead to fungi, resulting in chapped lips during the monsoon. And for that, SPF hydrating lip balm is necessary to make lips soft and covered. Similarly, using a mild exfoliating body wash to avoid clogged pores and rashes is also important. Watch out for areas such as the armpits, thighs, and feet where the sweat accumulates. Remember to wipe the skin dry by applying antifungal sprays. You can also apply light and non-greasy moisturizers to keep skin hydrated because of the changing weather.
Wear Sunscreen
You may be thinking that sunscreen isn’t important in the monsoon season due to the cloudy weather. However, that’s not true. As a matter of fact, harmful UV rays can easily go through clouds, resulting in tanning, pigmentation, and early aging. Therefore, apply a suitable sunscreen that has a 30 or higher SPF, preferably one that is a gel or water-based formula that will not weigh down during hot and humid conditions. Apply it to your face, neck, and any other exposed areas 20 minutes before going out and reapply every 2-3 hours when outside. This will protect you against free radicals that aggravate the breakouts and dullness.
Apply Masks
During the monsoon, face masks are an excellent way to treat your skin. Humidity leads to dirt, oil, and sweat retention, so clay-based masks can be used to absorb impurities and regulate the greasiness of the skin. To soothe and hydrate, aloe vera and hyaluronic acid gel and sheet masks act as hydration, giving a cooling effect to the skin. In case you’re dealing with breakouts, use masks with neem or charcoal to cleanse the skin. Wearing a mask once or twice per week improves blood flow, flushes out toxins, and gives your skin that natural glow again!
